My first baby was actually my dog! And when my little girl arrived I was concerned about my dog reactions. But the truth is that now, I am more concern of my dog and my daughter’s passionate love for him! Sometimes she even think that is a pony and her best friend!
When I found that I was pregnant
All my family was concern about the reaction of my dog with the new member. Everyone has heard a scary a story of a friend of a friend. But we did our homework to smooth the transition with our dog.
As everyone recommends
My husband brought some baby clothes to allow our dog to get used to the new smell. And our first day at home, we did a special welcome, that consists on entering at home in a special order, leaving our pet at last. So he could understand the new status / order at home.
The truth is that I have always been aware of how intelligent animals are. But they definitely always exceed my expectations. Since we arrived, our dog understood his new place in the house and that the new family member was more vulnerable and small, and assumed the role of caring for and protecting her.
There are so many benefits that pets provide for kids! Not only in their cognitive and educational level, but also to the children health. Children who grow up in homes with pets have less risk of developing common allergies and asthma and may help lower blood pressure.
I can say without any doubt that teaching your kids to love animals is the biggest gift! Having a pet teach them to be more empathic, confidence, responsibility and can be very therapeutic for them and the whole family.
